Northside Hospital Cherokee is a 525,000-square-foot replacement hospital constructed in Canton, GA. The hospital, a 105-bed patient tower, includes 30 emergency exam rooms, six operating rooms, sterile processing, ICU, pharmacy, radiology, women’s center wing, dining hall and kitchen, a two-level central energy plant, four main mechanical rooms, parking lot, 14 elevators, and a loading dock. The facility was built concurrently with the 125,000-square-foot medical office building and the 889-space parking deck.
Also included are 13 labor/delivery/recovery rooms, a postpartum room, one MRI room, two CT rooms, two cath labs, three resus/trauma rooms, two fluoroscopy rooms, one general radiation room, one nuclear medicine room, GI Suite/Endoscopy room, two C-section rooms, and 24 ICUs.
The 47-acre site required mass clearing and grading (500,000 cut / 500,000 fill) which was completed in two phases. Major rock blasting was performed, and 60-foot-high modular retaining walls were constructed.
Since the project was built to allow for future vertical and horizontal expansion, it features negative pressure roofing, column stub-ups, vertical circulation (stairs and elevators), and continuation of riser shafts.
